Testing the new 40GBASE-KR interconnect? — 40GBASE-KR is four lanes of
10.3125 Gb/s traffic for backplane applications, whereas 10GBASE-KR is one lane.
Transmitter and Receiver electrical characteristics are measured in exactly the
same way. Receiver interference tolerance testing is also executed the same way, except all
four transmitter lanes in 40GBASE-KR need to be in operation and terminated to provide
crosstalk. See our application note:

Webcast: Pass USB 3.0 Compliance the First Time:
SyntheSys Research and Test & Measurement World —
We look at the key aspects of transmitter testing, along with the less well understood
topic of receiver compliance, and the areas that frequently catch out the unwary. Benefit
from the considerable test experience we have gained working closely with customers at
Compliance Workshops and in their development labs.

Question:
What are J2 and J9 measurements?
Answer:
These are jitter measurements used in Ethernet
standards such as 40/100GbE, 802.3ba™. They define two
depths of measurement of an eye, as shown below.
Frequently, stressed eye recipes in recent Ethernet standards specify
values for J2 and J9 as one method of constraining the minimum amount
of stress. Two points define a gradient, and in practice it can be
hard to find a source that exactly matches the slope defined by the
J2/J9 values.
BERTScope Jitter Map has fast, deep, automated measurements
including J2 and J9 with little or no extrapolation (J2/J9 in a few
seconds).
